As the second wave subsides and the government embarks on an aggressive vaccination campaign, private hospitals anxiously await approval from the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation to begin administering vaccines at their sites.
According to AMC sources, 30 private hospitals have applied to be selected as vaccination centers. Most of them are from the western part of the city. They are likely to get clearance within the next two or three days after due diligence.
The list of 30 hospitals includes Sterling, Jivraj Mehta, Samved, SMS, Tapan, Bodyline, Aartham, Global, SGVP, among others. Currently, only a few hospitals like Apollo, HCG, Shalby, and KD operate as Covid vaccination centers.
When contacted, CMA Chief Medical Officer Dr Bhavin Solanki said: “We have received requests from about 30 private hospitals and are in the process of giving them permission, mainly in a few. days. Those who wait for vaccines in private centers will take them there. “
Vaccines are free at government centers, but private centers charge Rs 780 for Covishield and Rs 1,410 for Covaxin.
Pvt hospitals say they want to help
Referring to the high number of victims among young people, the director of Samved Hospital, Dr Shefali Desai, said: “We were a designated COVID hospital in the second wave and saw that many young people who did not have taken vaccines were seriously affected. Many were also dead. Therefore, we asked for a vaccination center so that people, including young people, are vaccinated quickly. “
Global Hospital plans to offer the Covishield vaccine at Rs650, with no administration fee. “We saw a lot of people die in the second wave. It’s our little effort to motivate people to come forward and get vaccinated, ”said Dhruv Jani, owner of Global Hospital. He added, “We receive many inquiries from companies with 2,000 to 5,000 employees. By lowering rates, we can encourage young people to get.
Owner of Tapan Hospitals,
Dr Rajendra Upadhyay told the Mirror: “We have three hospitals in Anandnagar, Khokhara and Bapunagar. As we had a vaccination center before, we now receive inquiries from many people. “
