New Delhi: A motorized wheelchair priced at Rs 23,000, less than those available in the market, chairs and tables made from discarded tyres, washable and reusable underwear for use during menstruation, a alarm system to be installed on shop shutters. These innovative items were on display at the Thyagaraj Stadium in South Delhi on Saturday during the Business Blasters Expo and Summit, an event to showcase Delhi’s public school students’ enterprise.
Amit Singh and six other class XI students from Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya No 1, Palam Village, developed the motorized wheelchair, which they called “Mobility Transformation”. The seed capital of Rs 16,000 given to students by the Delhi government paid off quickly, with five wheelchairs sold and a hospital pre-ordering 15.
Singh explained, “We saw how expensive wheelchairs were in the market. Our goal was to reduce costs by reworking the engine technology. We have visited hospitals to market our products and we have already sold five of them. »
Two teams had turned car tires into furniture. One included seven girls from Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya No 1, Narela, the other six boys from Government Co-ed Sarvodaya Vidyalaya, Sector 22, Rohini. The first group was called Eco India Furniture House and the second was Everyday Sofa company. A member of Eco India said, “The garage near our school had a lot of tires lying around. These collected water and caused mosquitoes to breed. We decided to put the tires to good use. The team has already sold four tables and is looking for an additional investment of Rs 2 lakh.
Innovators from the Safe Kitchen team have created an alarm system to detect gas leaks, caused by the death of a teacher in such a fire. Among the nine Class XII students in the team, Om, who studies at Government Boys Senior Secondary School, Sector V, Ambedkar Nagar, said: “We did a lot of our research and a mentor helped us develop the idea. Door-to-door marketing and social media helped us sell 20 pieces.
Business Blaster exhibitors were given booths to display and present their ideas to investors, many of whom guided students on how they could improve the product and others took their contact details to consider investing in their products.
One team that generated a lot of interest and questions were students from SKV, JJ Colony, Wazirpur, whose Feel Light washable menstrual underwear was priced at Rs 300 a piece. The students claimed that it was made of microfiber and could be used for a year. “We learned sewing and our product is personalized for each customer. We know that wearing sanitary napkins is often uncomfortable for teenage girls and we came up with this idea,” said Anjali, a class XI student.
Other products on offer ranged from chocolates and paints to handmade bulbs and soaps, even dance sessions. Of the 750 student exhibitors, 331 were girls.
