Closing of the finals – K rock Football
A DECISION on the venues for this year’s GFL and BFL finals could be announced by the end of the week.
New Regional Manager Ed Wilson said K-rock Football Sunday that AFL Barwon was close to finalizing details, with the BFL post-season just over six weeks away.
How a proposed ‘Round 19’ will play out to allow the GFL Finals to be pushed back a week to ensure the Grand Final avoids a clash with the GDFL will also be confirmed.
“That’s something I’ll be ready to share in detail over the next few days,” Wilson said.
“We are doing our due diligence to ensure that all the respective clubs and people involved know where we want to finalize these decisions, and a few of them have already been made.
“After the week off, we’ll be back to football in two weeks – netball of course as well – with a much clearer view of what the future will look like at the end of the season.”
What we do know is that a final is unlikely to be played at the GMHBA stadium for the first time since 1999.
speaking on K-rock Soccer on April 30, Kardinia Park Stadium Trust CEO Gerard Griffin said the Stage 5 redevelopment had created logistical problems.
He revealed he had met earlier in the year Bruce Harwood, the area’s now deceased general manager, about the accommodation capabilities of the GMHBA stadium.
“(We) discussed the logistics that we’re navigating because one thing he needs is a lot of locker rooms…if he’s going to put on three games,” Griffin said at the time.
“We’re not as logistically suited for him right now, so now it’s up to him to go back to his cohort and have a chat.”
