Calcutta: The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), the second largest professional body of chartered accountants in the world, today celebrated its annual two-day graduation ceremony in Calcutta.
CA (Dr) Debashis Mitra, Honorable Vice President of ICAI, speaking to the media, said: “ICAI, which has become a global institute, will focus on adapting new technologies like artificial intelligence as well. as on the forensic audit and the updating of its code of ethics. We will ensure that students meet global standards. To do this, ICAI has raised accounting standards to keep up with global trends and changes. ICAI has also expanded its footprint across and beyond India and currently has a student base of 7.5 lakes; 45 chapters and presence in 57 cities.
“Another encouraging development for CAs has been the recognition by the University Grants Commission (UGC) of the Chartered Accountant designation as the equivalent of a master’s degree. Now CAs can pursue doctoral programs, ”said Dr Mitra.
The Convocation was inaugurated with the lighting of the lamp by the guest of honor, CA Subodh Kumar Agrawal, former president of ICAI as well as other eminent dignitaries. Convocation is for the 2394 newly registered members of the Eastern Region. CA Sunil Kumar Sahoo, President of EIRC, welcomed and congratulated the guest of honor with a bouquet of flowers and a souvenir.
