Trade Minister Tipu Munshi, now in Canada, urged the country’s entrepreneurs to invest in Bangladesh, citing many opportunities.
He made the remarks during a meeting with Canada’s Saskatchewan Trade and Export Development Minister Jeremy Harrison and Agriculture Minister David Marit on Thursday.
Munshi, who is now on an official visit to Canada, called the North American country a good friend of Bangladesh and urged Canadian entrepreneurs to invest in different economic zones here taking advantage of various investment facilities.
Bangladesh offers comprehensive facilities to foreign investors while investment formalities have been simplified, he told Canadian ministers.

The government is working on the establishment of 100 special economic zones in important investment locations for both domestic and foreign investors, the trade minister added.
“Many countries around the world have already invested in these economic zones while many more are planning to invest,” said Munshi.
He said there are very good opportunities to increase trade and commerce between the two countries through increased Canadian investment and technology transfer.
A good number of Bangladeshi students study in Canada and there is huge potential for expanding education and technical cooperation, the minister said.
In response, Canadian ministers praised Bangladesh’s development, saying that Bangladesh’s investment policy and environment is rather favorable.
