Passion and Purpose: Andy Stuart Talks Encouragement to Signature Travel Consultants
In remarks to Signature Travel Network advisers on Tuesday, the former president and CEO of Norwegian Cruise Line said he saw no going back in the past. And with the rebirth of the travel industry to come, few can be sure of their individual place and role in this new world. This uncertainty can be frustrating now, but he said it presents an opportunity for travel counselors.
“Define your own passion and your goal”
“The most important step is to define your own passion and purpose. By doing this, you will discover your ‘why’, why you work and what you want to do with your life, ”Stuart said. “If you look at your passion and purpose, those things that bring you joy, you will discover your own why and this is your launching pad to soar as the travel industry is reborn.
“Now is the time to redefine your role in the reconfigured travel world. Seek where you will find joy as the industry reopens. Define it and pursue it.
Stuart explained how the self-examination led him to his passion and his goal: “Mine is to build a team and create a culture to achieve disproportionate results. “
After decades at NCL, culminating as CEO, Stuart left in 2019. The timing was fortuitous before the onset of COVID but also frustrating, he noted, as he often wanted to help his colleagues who are battling for their survival for the past 20 months.
Unity for survival
Stuart was impressed with the industry’s response to the pandemic and how quickly it came up with a plan to survive it – although things dragged on for much longer than anyone imagined. Fierce competitors have become partners, consortia like Signature Travel Network, organizations like the American Society of Travel Advisors, and vendors around the world have recognized unity and information sharing as essential.
In his inspirational message to Signature Travel Consultants, Stuart challenged them: “What’s your personal plan to be successful and capitalize on the pent-up demand we all know exists? How are you going to increase your knowledge, your expertise to make you the best prepared and most informed adviser to come out of this crisis?
“Do your due diligence now”
“Do your due diligence now to become the person you want to be,” Stuart said.
“We all love this industry, but this shining light will bring new opportunities, new roles that will help you see your goal. Do not jump back on the treadmill. Those who really watch what brings them joy will be the winners as the world reshapes itself.
