Website aims to make it easier for entrepreneurs in Colorado Springs and El Paso County to open a business
EL PASO COUNTY, Colorado (KRDO) – Thirteen new businesses opened in downtown Colorado Springs in 2021, with six more expected to open in the coming week.
City officials hope the website, COSOpenforBiz, will continue this momentum.
The website launched in 2019, but its latest expansion includes a roadmap for restaurants and cafes.
Local business owners in Colorado Springs and El Paso County helped create a step-by-step guide to make sure future entrepreneurs don’t face the same obstacles they face.
In addition to the restaurant and cafe roadmap, the site also includes guides for distilleries, food trucks, and general business. Officials said they will add more industrial sectors to the site until they achieve their ultimate goal of becoming the number one city in the country to open a business.
“We continue to rely on very specific industries,” said Chelsea Gaylord, senior economic development specialist at the city of Colorado Springs. “Everyone has specific requirements, or what we see as pitfalls or certain challenges when people are going to pitch their ideas.”
The city-led Colorado Springs Small Business Advocacy team partnered with several city and county organizations to bring the website to life. They said it helped an already booming economy, which did not slow down during the pandemic. Authorities estimate that around 20 to 30 food trucks were opened in El Paso County in 2021 alone.
The website also includes several resources for entrepreneurs who need additional help starting their business.
